Etsy fees for 3D print sellers: a worked example
A $25 sale does not put $25 in your pocket, and the gap is bigger than most sellers think. Here is every fee Etsy charges in 2026, applied to a real 3D printed order, with the arithmetic written out.
The fees, and what each one applies to
Etsy charges four things on a typical sale. The detail that catches people out is not the percentages — it is what those percentages are charged on.
| Fee | Amount | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 | Per listing, every 4 months and after each sale — whether or not it sells |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% | Item price plus shipping plus gift wrap |
| Payment processing (US) | 3% + $0.25 | The whole order total, including shipping and sales tax |
| Offsite Ads (if attributed) | 15% or 12% | Order total, capped at $100. 12% and mandatory once your shop passes $10k in a year |
Two of those bases matter enormously. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to shipping you charge, so "free shipping" built into your price is taxed the same as the product. And payment processing is charged on the tax-inclusive total, which means Etsy's real cut is slightly higher than the headline numbers suggest.
A worked example: a $25 print with $5 shipping
Say you sell an articulated dragon for $25 and charge $5 shipping. The buyer pays $30. Here is what Etsy takes:
That is 11% of the order gone before you have spent a cent on filament. If Offsite Ads attribute the sale to one of their placements, add another $4.50 at the 15% rate — and now Etsy has taken $7.80, or 26% of the order.
Then subtract what the print actually cost you
Fees are only half the story. That dragon also cost you material, electricity, a share of your printer's finite life, maintenance consumables, the failed prints that produced nothing, your hands-on time, packaging, and the postage you actually paid. For a typical 6-hour, 100g print those add up to roughly $12–14 — which turns your $26.70 into single-digit profit.
This is the arithmetic that makes experienced sellers wince at "just charge 3× filament cost." Three times filament on a 100g print is about $6. You would be losing money on every order and mistaking the volume for a business.
If you sell from outside the US
The listing fee ($0.20) and transaction fee (6.5%) are global, but payment processing varies by country, and some countries add a regulatory operating fee. Current rates from Etsy's own fee tables:
| Seller country | Payment processing | Regulatory fee |
|---|---|---|
| United States | 3% + $0.25 | — |
| United Kingdom | 4% + £0.20 | 0.48% |
| Germany | 4% + €0.30 | — |
| France | 4% + €0.30 | 1.14% |
| Italy | 4% + €0.30 | 0.80% |
| Spain | 4% + €0.30 | 0.88% |
| Canada | 3% + C$0.25 (domestic) | 0.50% |
| Australia | 3% + A$0.25 (domestic) | — |
Country-specific worked examples: United Kingdom · Germany · France · Netherlands · Spain · Italy · Canada · Australia.
Non-US sellers should also note that the 6.5% transaction fee officially applies to the tax-inclusive listing price, and that VAT may be charged on Etsy's fees themselves unless you are VAT-registered. The calculator applies your country's rates automatically when you pick your region.
The one number worth knowing by heart
For a typical Etsy 3D print sale without Offsite Ads, assume Etsy keeps around 11% of what the buyer pays, and 20–26% if ads attribute the sale. Price as though the higher number will happen sometimes, because it will.
How Etsy compares to other channels
On the same $25 + $5 order, Amazon Handmade's 15% referral fee takes $4.50 and eBay's 13.6% plus per-order fee takes about $4.48 — both more than Etsy. TikTok Shop's 6% referral takes $1.80, and selling direct through your own Shopify store costs only card processing plus your monthly plan spread across orders. Which is genuinely cheapest depends on your volume, and the difference on one order can be more than $2.
The calculator shows all five side by side with your own costs filled in.
